Felicia Moore Mensah

Dr. Felicia Moore Mensah is an Associate Professor and Program Coordinator in Science Education, in the Department of Mathematics, Science and Technology at Teachers College, Columbia University, New York City.  She earned her Ph.D. in Science Education from The Florida State University (2003), her M.S. in Biology and Secondary Education from NC A&T State University (1992), and her B.S. in Biology from UNC-Chapel Hill (1988).  She also completed a two year postdoctoral fellowship at Michigan State University, the second year while in residence at Teachers College.

Dr. Mensah’s research interests are in diversity and social justice education with an emphasis on improving science experiences and for PreK-16 teachers and students in urban classrooms. She conducts professional development for elementary, middle, and high school science teachers as well as provide outreach activities to schools in science.  Dr. Mensah has published extensively in the area of teacher education, and also serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Science Teacher Education, Journal of Elementary Science Education, and Cultural Studies of Science Education. She was recently elected as an Executive Board Member for the National Association for Research in Science Teaching (NARST), a worldwide organization of professionals committed to the improvement of science teaching and learning through research, teaching and policy. Dr. Mensah has recerived a number of awards and honors, such as the Early Career Award by Division K of the American Educational Research Association in 2012.
