Call for Journal Reviewers

The Center for African American Research and Policy (CAARP) is actively recruiting individuals who are willing to serve as reviewers to support the CAARP journals (see this link: https://caarpweb.org/publications). Reviewers, like all CAARP journal affiliates (e.g., editors, section editors, reviewers, advisory board members), provide service to the organization free of charge.  The three-year term begins on the 1st day of the month following appointment.

CAARP journal reviewerships are open to all willing and qualified individuals. The opportunity to serve as reviewer for a CAARP journal represents a chance to influence the content of the journal and help shape the profession and practice of African American Research and Policy.

Reviewers are responsible for assessing the quality of manuscripts submitted to JPP. This includes (among other responsibilities):

  • Reviewing documents for significance;
  • A critical analysis of major paper elements (e.g., introduction, questions, literature review, methodology, findings, discussion/conclusion, and recommendations for research/policy/practice); and
  • A final determination for the submission based upon our acceptance scale (e.g., accept submission, revisions required, resubmit for review, decline submission).

Benefits of Serving as a Reviewer:

  • Professional service that may aid in promotion and tenure decisions.
  • National and international visibility among academics, administrators, and higher education scholars.
  • Opportunity to serve with an Editorial Board consisting of national and international scholars.

Reviewers are selected based on their research and scholarship.  Previous review experience is preferred but not required. Self-nominations or nominations from others are welcomed. Nominations must include:

  • Curriculum vitae of the nominee.
  • Brief Biography (250 words maximum).
  • High resolution (jpeg.) photo.
  • Contact information for two (2) professional references.

Materials should be sent to Rikesha L. Fry Brown, PhD, Associate Director for Publications, at publications@caarpweb.org.  Nominations are accepted on a rolling basis.  Applications received by the 5st of the month will be reviewed and applicants notified by the 25th of the same month.
