photo-4DeMarcus A. Jenkins is a Ph.D student at the University of California – Los Angeles in the Division of Urban Schooling. His research interests are situated at the intersections of race, space, and policy. DeMarcus is particularly interested in the dialectical interaction between space and society and its implications for educational inequities. His current research examines the spatial degradation and political challenges in Detroit, Michigan and its effects on the Detroit Public School District.  DeMarcus is a former high school teacher, through Teach for America,serving students in Washington, DC, Brooklyn, New York, and Atlanta, Georgia. He received his M.Ed in English Education from Georgia State University; MA in Secondary Education from American University, and his dual BA in English and AfroAmerican and African Studies from University of Michigan. DeMarcus is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
